Automated enrollment into both Apple DEP and VMware Workspace ONE UEM by AirWatch

In my previous blog post titled Steps to enroll non-DEP device into Apple DEP with Apple Configurator for VMware Workspace ONE UEM by AirWatch, I explained in depth how to add a non-DEP device into Apple DEP with Apple Configurator. However, there are many other use cases with this valuable tool. In this post, I will share the steps to configure automated enrollment.

For reference, I reviewed chapter 3 of the guide below. I hope to supplement it with screenshots and clarification wherever applicable.

This post assumes you already created a Wi-Fi profile per my previous post. If not, within Apple Configurator click on File -> New Profile and create it accordingly (you may reference my previous post on the steps required).

Then, create a new blueprint per screenshots below.

Give this profile a name (i.e. Automated Enrollment). Then, click Prepare on top.

Finally, connect your iOS device to your macOS workstation. Within Apple Configurator, select the device and click Actions -> Apply and select the blueprint created for automated enrollment.

I get the error below whether the device is already enrolled in Apple DEP or not. VMware Workspace ONE support doesn’t know either.

Bottom line: just forget this altogether.
