Duo MFA

Cards

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is required for all University of Miami faculty, staff, and students. Duo is an approved University of Miami vendor of MFA services. If you use any University of Miami Single Sign-On (UMSSO)-enabled applications or services—such as Blackboard, CaneID, CaneLink, myUM, and/or Workday—then you will need to know more about MFA.

The goal of MFA is to create a layered defense and make it more difficult for an unauthorized person to access your information. MFA adds a step to the login process and requires you to prove your identity after entering a CaneID and password by responding to a prompt using a mobile device, tablet, or token.

You can use the Duo mobile app (available via the App Store or Google Play) to generate a passcode and authenticate with your CaneID and password. Alternatively, you can use the text a passcode feature to receive an SMS message.

Important : You'll need an active CaneID to access UM's online resources.
